Lazy Winter Days

We've been a bit under the weather the last few days. Spending a lot of time inside, hiding from the cold, snow, and ice. Days like this seem to fly by and, somehow, nothing of importance seems to get accomplished (even though we didn't leave the house for over 48 hours). Sure, I got the laundry done, one bathroom cleaned, got caught up on all of my mind numbing reality tv (hello realhousewives and teen mom2), and made N some homemade baby food. But on the REAL list of things to do, nothin'.

Here's what our lazy winter days look like:

N discovered the laundry basket this week. He likes to knock it over and then scratches at the tag on the bottom of it for about five minutes, which is an eternity in baby time.

Hopefully we will be rested up in time for the Super Bowl. Not that I really care about the game, but we are having some friends over and I am in serious need of some fun. Hope you all are staying healthy!

Open Shelving in the Kitchen

When we moved into our house, the kitchen had been recently "updated." Updated meaning contractor grade oak cabinets and blah home-improvement-store-sale tile. Not excatly the modern kitchen I was hoping for.

So, being the handy go getter I am, I went to work painting the cabinets white...still wasn't doing it for me. It was an imporvement, but I knew it could be better.

Which brings me to my lastest saga in, Making Do With What You Have, Even Though You Hate It. I've been contemplating taking the cabinet doors off some of the uppers for an open shelving look.

I would paint the interior of the cabinets a dark charcol gray to make the white dishware really pop. (note to self: buy white dishware)

In my dreams, I would be cooking in this:

Would love to put up a subway tile backsplash and change out the hardware to something gold...ahh, mental picture bliss.

How do you feel about open shelving? Modern Minimalistic? or Dust Haven?
